Singapore, 15 Feb 2019

(APL Logistics) For the logistics services for automotive, the handling volume saw steady growth due to business expansion with major customers and rail transportation in India. Retail-related logistics service also continued steady growth mainly in major customers, and consumer and industrial fields also showed solid growth.

As a result, net sales of APLL increased 1.8% to 146,670 million yen and the company secured operating income of 5,864 million yen (rose 131.3%) through its effort to improve operating gross profit margin. Operating income was 1,346 million yen (operating loss of 2,096 million yen a year earlier) as amortization of goodwill related to APLL acquisition by KWE is still included in this segment.

The exchange rate was U.S. $1 = \109.61 and U.S. $1 = \111.92 for the nine months ended December 31, 2018 and 2017, respectively (APLL used the average rate for the period from January 1 to September 30 because APLL’s fiscal year-end is December 31). As described above, net sales for the nine months ended December 31, 2018 increased 9.7% to 447,454 million yen, operating income rose 35.4% to 15,490 million yen, ordinary income increased 31.8% to 15,781 million yen, and net income attributable to owners of the parent rose 81.1% to 7,445 million yen.

February 14, 2018, SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – Versus prior year, APLL’s revenue grew by 11% (to 144,024 million yen). Positive results were driven mainly by growth in core customer verticals (Automotive / Retail / Consumer / Industrials) and key regions (North America / North Asia / South Asia). Specifically, the Automotive vertical exhibited strong year-on-year growth due to robust increases in its intermodal handling volumes between U.S. and Mexico. Transportation of finished cars in India also enjoyed an uptick in volumes as vehicle production continues to increase to meet domestic consumption. The Retail vertical was also buoyed by signs of economic growth and recovery across regions, while the Consumer and Industrials verticals were stable versus prior year. Coupled with a disciplined approach to cost management, APLL’s core operating income rose by 66% (to 2,535 million yen) versus prior year. This result was achieved in spite of costs incurred by the organization to develop and enhance its business support functions, and fully separate from its former parent company. This result is also a testament to APLL’s continued efforts to invest in its talent, grow its business, and deliver for its shareholders. It should be noted that APLL is wholly-owned by Kintetsu World Express (KWE) and APLL as a standalone business segment had to record a net operating loss of 2,096 million yen (versus an operating loss of 2,966 million yen in prior year). This is due to the amortization of goodwill, related to KWE’s acquisition of APLL in 2015 for $1.2B.

APL Logistics VASCOR Automotive (“APLL VASCOR”), provider of the innovative AutoLinx℠ rail-based finished vehicle solution in India, was recognized at the Global Logistics Excellence Awards 2017 as “Rail Freight Company of the Year”. The awards ceremony was held at The Leela in Mumbai, India and was part of a three day logistics exposition organized in association with The Economic Times, India’s leading financial daily, and had India’s leading media house, CNBC TV 18, as a partner. The award recognized APLL VASCOR’s leading position in achieving significant rail-based growth in the sector through its acquisition of customers, increased revenue share, high satisfaction and retention of customers.

The goal of these awards is to identify shortlist and bring to the forefront individuals, organizations and projects that have created excellence in the logistics domain. This is a platform that shines a spotlight on the heroes of the sector who have risen in spite of challenges whether managing logistics operations within the enterprise or as 3PL players.
